George’s Food Hub based at St Augustine’s School in Stamford marks first anniversary
A food hub has been feeding the community for one year.
George Hetherington started his food hub at St Augustine’s School in Stamford in September 2022 with the aim of cutting the amount of good food which ends up in landfill.
Since then a growing team of volunteers has handed out food to people 20,300 times.
George, 86, describes the hub as ‘fulfilling all his expectations’ but believes there is still more to do to end child food poverty.
He is asking for volunteers to get in by calling 07891 437914 or emailing georgehetherington2@gmail.com.
“George’s Food Hub wouldn’t be what it is without it’s volunteers, their hard work and dedication is what makes the hub what it is,” he said.
Due to demand the hub also operates one day a week at the Children's Centre and Bluecoat School, and one day a week the Hub and Soup Kitchen at the Free Church in Kesteven Road.
