Outdoor gym opens in Tod's Piece, Uppingham

An outdoor gym for anyone to use is complete after several years of planning.

People are now able to workout in Tod’s Piece, Uppingham as several pieces of gym equipment have been installed.

The project, spearheaded by Uppingham Town Council, has taken a number of years to complete.

However, the hard work was worth it as people in the town are already using the gym, which was completed on Tuesday last week.

Charlie Pallett, who runs the website The Rutland Blogger and is an Uppingham town councillor, said: “The outdoor gym is a welcome addition to Tod’s Piece.

“It’s lovely to see it being so popular already especially with mothers while their children play and seeing teenagers taking it in turns on each piece of equipment with their friends.

“There is something for everyone to try, whatever their fitness ability and is perfect for complete beginners too as each piece of equipment has clearly stated instructions of use.”

Cornelius Vincent-Enright, a former councillor involved in organising the outdoor gym equipment, knows first-hand the importance of exercise and connecting with the outdoors.

Having suffered with depression for more than 25 years he believes that it helps improve mental and physical health.

“It is brilliant for both children and older people,” he said.

“It will be part of the fabric of the community.”

Cornelius works as a fitness instructor and while he has his own gym, he says he plans to take clients to the facility in Tod’s Piece as well.

The gym is free to use and will be officially opened in the near future.

The Stamford outdoor gym has also proved popular since it opened.
